About this book
Based on a True Story: A Memoir is a book by Norm Macdonald, the stand-up comic and Saturday Night Live veteran. Random House published it in 2016 as a 256-page hardcover.
According to the publisher, Macdonald turned down an offer to write a celebrity memoir, calling the genre one step below instruction manuals, and then spent two years away from stand-up on a farm in northern Canada. He came back with a manuscript about comedy, tragedy, love, loss, war and redemption. The book includes a foreword by Louis C.K.
In a review quoted by the publisher, Vulture called it part personal history and part riff on celebrity memoirs.
